6 ways to use lemon in your beauty routine

I’m a big fan of using organic natural skincare and makeup, as much as possible. With the skin being our largest organ it’s so important we look after what we put on it. So many skincare products are filled with all sorts of chemicals, which are  then easily absorbed by our skin and put into our blood steam. This can add to the toxic load on our bodies. I hear a lot of girls talk about how expensive going natural can be but it’s not as expensive as you think. However one of my favourite things to do is use everyday natural items in my beauty regime. I’ve already told you about my favourite ways to use coconut oil and now it’s time to share with you my favourite ways to use lemon. Just check out the many different ways this awesome and affordable fruit can bed used in your beauty routine.

1. Clears blemishes
Because lemons are naturally antibacterial and vitamin rich they are a great at clearing blemishes as natural cleansing alternative for the. If you are someone who gets blackheads then you can simply rub lemon over the affected area at night, washing it away in the morning with some water. Keep doing this until the blackheads clear. You can also make your own homemade natural cleansing wipes by simple squeezing fresh lemon onto some cleansing pads and using to wipe down the skin.

2. Facial scrub
So because lemons are good for cleansing blemishes they are great to use as a facial exfoliator too. Cut a lemon in half, dip it in some sugar and then rub it on your face for an all natural facial scrub. Don’t use this more then once a week as it can be too abrasive if used more then once.

3. Skin brightener
Lemon is great for evening out skin tone and lighten things like age spots, stretch marks or just as a general brightener. Mix in some lemon, with coconut oil and honey and add to any spot you wish to brighten. Leave for about 5 to 10 minutes and then rinse with water. After a few weeks you will notive dark spots or stretch marks starting to disappear.

4. Lemon body scrub and recipe
Seeing as lemon is so good for the skin then it’s great to use in an all over body scrub too. Nothing makes you glow more then a full body scrub down to get rid of any dry skin and dullness. I love using lemon in a homemade body scrub. You can make to most divine body scrub with ingredients all from your kitchen cupboard. Because lemon is also great for brightening your skin by adding the lemon rind not only will it smell great you will glow after too.

1 cup of sea salt
Zest from 1 lemon
½ cup coconut oil (almond, macadamia or even olive oil can work)

Combine all the ingredients into a tight jar, tighten the lid on and shake until all the ingredients are well combined. Use a spoon to get out, so you don’t contaminate the scrub with oils from your hands. You can keep this in the shower or bathroom cupboard for about six months. . A salt scrub can be quite abrasive on the skin so you only need to use it a couple of times a week.

5. Hair Highlighter
Want to get those gorgeous sun kissed highlights in your hair? Then lemon can give you that, without having to use bleach. I have to admit I do still make a trip to the hairdresser for my highlights but if you want a more natural and less expensive alternative then don’t be afraid to give lemon a go.

6. Strengthen your nails
There is nothing worse then nails that a brittle and break. Lemon can help strengthen your nails. Just soak in lemon juice for five to ten minutes. This is great if you have recently had acrylics on or gel nail polish and your nails are particularly weak. As well be mindful you don’t have any cuts on your fingers as then it will sting.
