What’s better than blemish free, healthy skin? Making your skin glow with your own homemade recipes, that don’t cost a small fortune. Skin care can be very expensive, especially if you go for organic, all-natural skin care products like me. That’s why I like to also use everyday items to make my own skin care, some of which you can find in your kitchen pantry. Here are some of my favourite skin care recipes.
All- natural face mask recipes
Face masks are great when you want to do an at-home spa day. There are so many different ones you can make out of everyday kitchen and bathroom ingredients.
Olive oil, honey and baking soda face mask
This recipe comes from three simple ingredients that almost everyone has in their kitchen pantry. Baking soda, honey and olive oil. Both olive oil and honey are extremely moisturising for the skin, keeping it soft and smooth. Whilst honey also helps fight off bacteria, protects your skin from harmful sunrays and wrinkles, as well as tightens your pores and locks in moisture. Olive oil helps to repair your skin, reduce blemishes and promotes elasticity. Baking soda boosts circulation and works as a gentle exfoliant, removing dead skin cells and excess oil.
Recipe: Mix together 1 teaspoon of olive oil, 2 teaspoons of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of honey in a small bowl. Apply an even layer to your face, and leave for 30 minutes. Wash off with warm water to remove. If you have sensitive skin you might want to try this on a small patch of skin first.
Activated charcoal and tea tree oil face mask
Activated charcoal is amazing for the skin. It helps draw out any toxins and impurities, leaving your skin refreshed and glowing.
Recipe: Mix together 1 teaspoon of activated charcoal (powder form), 2 teaspoons of aloe vera gel or juice and 3 drops of tea tree oil. Apply an even layer to your face, and leave for 30 minutes. Wash off with warm water to remove. If you have sensitive skin you might want to try this on a small patch of skin first.
Avocado and almond eye cream
Eye creams are essential in a beauty regime. However, they can definitely break the bank. If you have dry skin, then this is a great eye cream to use. Avocado and almond oil are hydrating for the skin and will leave it super soft. Avocado can also help reduce fine lines, which, let’s face it, we all want around the eye area.
Recipe: 2 slices of avocado, 4 drops of almond oil, blend together and softly dab under eyes. Wash off after 8 minutes.
Coconut oil and honey cleanser
Coconut oil and honey are both really good ingredients to put in a cleanser. That’s because they both have antibacterial properties that prevent skin breakouts. Coconut oil is also extremely hydrating on the skin and helps to remove any tough eye and face makeup. It also smells amazing. Honey helps to remove any dirt and also adds moisture to the skin.
Recipe: 5 tablespoons of coconut oil and 3 teaspoons of honey mixed together in a small jar. Optional: add either lavender or lemon essential oil. Both have great healing properties for the skin. Apply mixture to face and wash off with warm water.
Lemon and coconut body scrub
Nothing makes you glow more than a full body scrub, that gets rid of any dry skin and dullness. One of my favourite ingredients to use from my kitchen cupboard is lemon. Lemon is so good for the skin and can be used in so many different areas of your beauty regime, including this amazing body scrub recipe. Because lemon is also great for brightening the skin, you will get a great all-natural glow after using it.
Recipe: Mix together 1 cup of sea salt, zest from 1 lemon, ½ cup coconut oil (almond, macadamia or even olive oil can work). Combine all the ingredients into a tight jar, tighten the lid and shake until all the ingredients are well combined. Use a spoon to get out, so you don’t contaminate the scrub with oils from your hands. You can keep this in the shower or bathroom cupboard for about six months.
So there you have it. So many amazing skin care recipes that are all-natural, easy to make and don’t empty your bank account. Because so many of you ask me about fashion and makeup, I’ve created a new Facebook page here, dedicated to all things girly and beauty. Hope you enjoy.
