I get asked all the time about what my secret is for beautiful skin. Well let me tell you one thing, my skin doesn’t glow all the time. I can get my share of pimple breakouts just like any girl. Especially when I’m stressed out and haven’t been taking care of myself as well as I should. However when a breakout does occur, or if I know I have an event coming up and I want to achieve that healthy glow, I do have my go-to skin care routine. Some of which doesn’t actually include skin care products. So here it is my skin care formula for healthy beautiful skin.
1. Eat healthy nourishing foods
One of the first things women want to do when they have a breakout or want to improve their skin is to smother themselves in expensive skin cream. However, the best thing you can do for your skin is, watch what you eat. To keep skin clear, you want to avoid all processed sugars, packaged foods and bad vegetables oils, as this can lead to oil build up, premature ageing and other skin related problems. Just as food can make our skin go bad, there are also foods that can help our skin deal with breakouts and enhance our natural glow. Foods like avocado, flaxseed, blueberries and oily fish are all powerhouses of nutrients for our skin. So stay away from packets and fill up on these whole foods instead. My F.I.T. program has a nutrition plan that is filled with skin nourishing foods. So not only do you get a dream body, your skin will start to glow too.
2. Use coconut oil
Coconut oil is an amazing skin product and has so many uses. I particularly like to use it as a makeup remover and gentle cleanser. It has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties which help prevent and clear pimples. It’s also the most effective eye makeup remover I’ve come across and makes a great all over body moisturiser.
3. Reduce stress
Believe it or not stress can be one of the biggest factors affecting the health of our skin. Skin is the body’s largest organ, so it’s no wonder that when we are under extreme stress, it can take its toll. Not only does stress contribute to premature ageing, it can also be a major cause of dermatitis, pimple breakouts and other skin conditions like Rosacea. If you experience troubling skin conditions, look at ways to reduce any stress in your life. Try things like deep belly breathing, yoga, meditation or a simple bubble bath, as these, can do amazing things to help de-stress.
4. Drink lots of water
It’s so important to stay hydrated throughout the day for so many reasons. Not just for your body but your mind and skin too. If you are dehydrated then your skin can get dry, tight and flaky. It also loses its elasticity; making wrinkles appear more prominent and let’s face it no one wants that. As well, without being properly hydrated it’s hard for your skin to get rid of toxins in the body, which can then lead to irritation, inflammation and oil build up. Being properly hydrated really does make your skin glow, so drink up.
5. Exfoliate with a toothbrush
Exfoliation is a great way to get rid of oil build-up or a build-up of dead skin cells. When you have a build-up of skin cells your skin can look extremely dry and dull. My favourite way to exfoliate is to use a soft toothbrush over my face. Don’t press down too hard and go in small circular motions over the entire face. It’s even great for getting rid of any dead skin on your lips.
