Protein bliss balls

Protein bliss balls

Protein balls are all the rave as a pre or post workout snack. They come in all different recipes to suit different tastes and preferences; however the basic idea is all the same… Mix the right combinations of dry proteins and moist fruits and you will end up with a delicious protein treat!

So here is one that I want to share with you today. It is a completely natural form of protein ball that requires no protein powder and contains no added sugar (though it still has dried fruit so try to resist eating them all in one go!). These delicious, easy to make bliss balls are packed full of protein, dairy free, gluten free and have a natural Jaffa flavour!

  • 1 cup almond meal
  • 1/3 cup tahini
  • 1/2 cup desiccated coconut
  • 10 dates, pitted
  • 1/4 cup sultanas
  • 1/2 cup brazil nuts
  • 3 Tbsp. orange juice (from a fresh orange)
  • 3 Tbsp. raw cacao powder

  1. Place all ingredients into a processor and blend well. If the mixture is not moist enough, add a little more orange juice.
  2. With damp hands roll even amounts into small balls and roll in coconut.
  3. Lightly dust with extra coconut and store in a container in the fridge.

One of the fab things about these ‘bliss balls’ is that you can really use whatever ingredients you like, ensuring that you have enough moisture to bind them. You may decide that these are a little too orangey for your likings (they taste a little like Jaffas!), so you may wish to switch out the orange juice for more Tahini or even some almond milk. How long they last in the fridge will depend on what ingredients you choose to use in your bliss balls. However if you have some friends over and you want to show off your treat making skills, then I don’t expect they will last that long!
