Success all begins with how you start your day. If you start your day right then everything else will follow. Any person who is successful whether it’s in fitness, health or even business they all have a good morning routine. This helps them prepare for the day ahead and take on challenges that may pop up as the day goes on. For me personally I have a pretty regular morning routine that helps give me energy and allows me to organise my day, so I can keep moving forward and working towards my goals. These are my top tips for creating a morning routine that will set you up for success.
Personally I always add some form of exercise into my morning routine. It helps wake me up and energises me for the day. Exercise in the morning also kick starts your metabolism which means you’ll burn more calories throughout the day. I know some people find it hard to get moving in the mornings, but even if you just do something gentle it is so beneficial for the body. If you think you get a better workout in the afternoon, then consider adding in some morning yoga or a gentle walk, either way just get up and get moving. If getting up early is a struggle for you then start getting up earlier in fifteen minute increments. Week 1 set your alarm 15 minutes earlier than you usually would and so and so on. Soon you will be able to get up an extra hour or two earlier and can have so much more time in the mornings.
Always eat breakfast
I never suggest skipping meals and even more so with breakfast. Just like exercise breakfast is so important to kick start your metabolism after you have been fasting all night. It also gives you the fuel and energy your body needs for the day. There are so many awesome breakfast recipes and one of my favourites is this apple pie quinoa bowl. It’s like having a dessert for breakfast.
1 green apple – diced into small chunks
1⁄2 cup of quinoa
1 cup of water
1 vanilla bean pod and seeds
1 cup of almond milk – unsweetened
1 tbs toasted almond meal (toast under grill, no oil)
1 tsp of cinnamon (or as much as you desire)
1. Thoroughly wash the quinoa in water
2. Place 1 cup of water into a saucepan and bring to boil
3. Place quinoa and vanilla bean pod and seeds into the water. Reduce heat, cover with a lid and allow quinoa to simmer for 10 mins
4. Turn off the heat. Place the diced apple into the quinoa and mix through gently
5. Cover back up with lid and allow to sit for a further 10 mins
6. Scoop the mix into a bowl, pour almond milk on top and mix thoroughly, sprinkle with toasted almond meal and cinnamon and Enjoy!
If you are one of those people that can’t quite stomach food in the morning, then at least try and have a green smoothie or try out my new organic vegan protein powder for a nutritious shake.
After you have been asleep all night your body has become dehydrated, so as soon as you wake up start drinking some water. In fact this should be the first thing you do each morning, before reaching for the coffee or breakfast. The human body is made up of over 50% water and is vital for not only fat loss but for a healthy body in general. So do not let yourself get dehydrated. I like to start my morning with water at room temperature and with some lemon in it. This helps the body start the digestive processes as well as detox the liver.
Look at your goals
Some people will meditate others will do visualisations; I like to personally sit and read my goals in the morning. That way you have a daily reminder of what you are working towards and why. Once you have looked at your goals then write down one thing you can do that day that will bring you one step closer to achieving them. If you keep this as a daily activity you’ll reach your goals a lot quicker than you realise.
Being successful is all about the daily habits you create for yourself. It can seem really hard at first but trust me as time goes on they get easier and soon all these healthy habits will be in your daily routine. So sit down today and write a healthy morning ritual for yourself that will help you start your day and be the best you can be.
