Make it happen for yourself and start living your dream

Let me let you in on a little secret to success; luck has absolutely nothing to do with it. I hear it so many times about people who have become successful “oh they are so lucky”. But seriously if you want to be successful, reach your goals and achieve your dreams, you need to be willing and dedicated to work hard for it. Yes sometimes people can be in the right place at the right time but most actually just work their butts off. In fact some of the most successful people in the world have come from adversity and they use their hard circumstances as motivation to keep going. So if you really want to make things happen for yourself, here are some of my key ingredients to success.

Work hard
Some people work hard for things. They believe they can have what they want and they don't give up until they get it. Then there's people who are envious of these people and wish they could have it but don't think it's possible so they don't even bother trying. I used to be one of those people. I was lazy, I felt sorry for myself, had no self-belief and just never thought I could do anything. I was holding myself back. But I woke up to myself and realised that it is possible to have the things I want and I don't have to dream about it anymore. It just meant I needed to work hard to get there.

Believe in yourself
If you want to be successful then you have to believe in yourself. Know that you are capable of so much more than you think. If you allow negative thoughts to come into your head of “I can’t” or “I’ll never be able to do that” then you will never get to where you want to go. If you don't believe you can then you won't. So make sure you watch that negative self-talk, as it can be so detrimental to living out your dreams.

Find a mentor or coach
Do you think Olympic athletes or successful entrepreneurs achieve greatness by themselves? No and neither should you. Find yourself a coach or mentor that can help support you in where you want to go. They will not only help support you but also keep you accountable. You can get a mentor or coach for all areas of your life, whether it’s fitness, diet, business, relationships or life itself. It doesn’t even need to be a professional, find a friend who’s inspirational to you and see if they want to help. I have coaches and mentors in all walks of my life and from professionals to friends and it’s helped me so much to get to where I am today.

Stop procrastinating
So many people say “oh one day I’ll go and do that”. No, why not start today. If you start working towards your goals today, even if it’s small steps, it’s still closer then if you sit and do nothing at all. It’s so easy to sit and make excuses as to why you can’t do something, but in reality you are just procrastinating. If the task at hand all seems a little bit overwhelming then break it down into smaller more achievable tasks and give yourself one daily to do. Step by step you will be working towards creating the life you want and living your dreams.

Keep the end prize in sight
When I decided I wanted to be on the cover of Oxygen magazine, I kept that in the top of my mind all the time. When things got hard, or I wanted to give up I kept my focus on that. If you need to, read your goals out on a daily basis and then visualise what it will feel like once you achieve them. Put pictures on the fridge door, or make a vision board in your room of your goals, that way you can have a daily reminder of why you need to work hard. When you keep the end prize in sight it makes things a lot easier to stay motivated and work hard.

Don’t expect it to be easy
I’ve already mentioned you have to work hard to make things happen for yourself. If going out there and living out your dreams were easy then everyone would be doing it. So expect to come across obstacles and expect to have days where you will feel like giving up. The difference however between people who make it for themselves and those who don’t are the ones who push through those barriers when they appear. They are the ones that see obstacles as opportunities to work harder and just keep going.

Remember if you don't commit yourself then nothing will ever become a reality. It's not going to come to you and nobody is going to do it for you. You have to go get it yourself.
