It’s full swing into summer here in Australia and I’m loving how my skin feels. There is something about summer that just makes your skin shine. When you have bright glowing skin you feel great, you look great and your confidence is high. However you don’t just need to wait for summer to be able to get that gorgeous summer glow. Here are some of my top tips for keeping that beautiful summer skin year round.
When you have a build-up of skin cells your skin looks dry and dull. There are plenty of ways you can exfoliate but for me personally I love to use dry body brushing. Dry body brushing is a great way to exfoliate the skin, making it look great and feel super soft. It also stimulates blood and lymphatic circulation, which assists the body to eliminate waste and detoxify the body. So that’s a double win in my books. Get a dry body brush and use for about five minutes before you get into the shower. Start at your feet with the brush and slowly work your way up the body. Make sure you get a natural hair brush and only do on dry skin to get the maximum benefits. This is particularly great to do before applying a fake tan so you can get an even application. You can pick up one of these brushes at most health food stores or pharmacies. However please don’t use this on the face, as the face is a lot more sensitive than other areas of your body.
Fake the tan
If you want to go for that tanned summer look without spending hours in the sun, then fake it. It’s all very well getting bronzed from the sun now but when you are older and your skin is wrinkled and leathery you will wish you would have taken better care of it. I like to use an all-natural fake tan for when I have a special occasion or just simply want to add some colour. There are some awesome products on the market these days that no longer give you that orange streaky look. If fake tan isn’t your thing then you can get some instant coloured oils that give you a refreshing glow and then wash off in the shower.
I always rave on about keeping hydrated for a healthy body but keeping hydrated is also important for the skin. If you are dehydrated then your skin can get dry, tight and flaky. It also loses its elasticity; making wrinkles appear more prominent and let’s face it no one wants that. So here’s just another reason to keep drinking that H20.
With skin making up 80% of the body it’s actually our largest organ and absorbs everything we put on it. That’s why it’s important to only use good quality natural products, as whatever goes on our skin also goes into our blood system. When our bodies are healthy on the inside then our skin will glow on the outside. I like to use all natural skin products that don’t have any parabens, sulphates or man made chemicals. In fact one of my favourite all over skin care products is coconut oil. You can use it as a moisturiser, make up remover or even add in some sugar for a gorgeous body scrub.
Glow from the inside
Our skin isn’t just affected by what we put on it but it is also greatly affected by what we put in our mouths. Processed foods that contain sugar and refined carbs produce inflammation on the body and oxidative stress. If your diet is made up mainly of these foods then don’t be surprised if you start to see more fine lines and wrinkles over time. Deep fried foods also cause an oil build up in the body, which can lead to excessive oily skin and breakouts. There are so many great foods that will do amazing things for your skin. Anything that contains your omega 3 fats like fish, walnuts and flaxseed are super nourishing to your skin. Also fruits like berries are a great source of antioxidants and vitamins that will help your skin fight against free radicals and decrease signs of ageing. When you feed your body with good quality natural foods then the skin will thank you for it and you will have that all over natural glow.
I hope you enjoyed these tips and remember you don’t need to wait for summer to shine. Do you have any favourite skin tips? If so I would love to hear them in the comments below.
