Eggs might have been a topic of conflicting opinions in the health industry a few years ago, gaining a bad rap because of their high cholesterol levels, however we now know that they are not only a delicious way to start your day… They are incredibly nutritious too!
Here are 5 reasons why you should consider starting your day off with some eggs!
They are incredibly nutritious. A single boiled egg contains Vitamins B2, B5, B6, B12, A, E, D, K, Selenium, phosphorus, folate, calcium and zinc (to name a few). They basically contain small amounts of all the different nutrients we need!
They raise your ‘good’ cholesterol. Eggs have often been dismissed from being labelled as healthy because they are high in cholesterol; however they actually help raise your High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) which is often referred to as the ‘good’ cholesterol. Your HDL helps keep your bad cholesterol (LDL) in check by preventing it from building up in your arteries!
Rich in high quality protein. They contain all the 9 essential amino acids, making them a complete protein source. So a boiled egg is a fantastic post workout protein source!
They fill you up! Because they contain protein and good fats, eggs leave you feeling satisfied and will provide slow release energy whilst helping stave off hunger for longer.
- They are delicious and diverse! Eggs are a delicious menu option that also provides numerous healthy ways in which you can eat them. Obviously fried eggs (that use oil) are a less healthy option; however you can enjoy them boiled, poached, scrambled, or raw in your smoothie!
Like everything in our diet though, moderation is key! Opinions may vary on how many eggs are healthy to consume, however the general consensus is this; If you are a healthy and active person then up to 3 medium sized eggs per day is perfectly acceptable. Now isn’t that Eggcelent news!?
