7 cardio exercises that burn more fat than running

We all know that jogging is a good way to burn calories (you can burn around 400 calories per hour!), and that interval sprinting is even better! Yet you might be surprised to learn that there are many other ways in which you can equally, or even more effectively, shed those unwanted pounds.

Here are 7 cardio exercises that are more effective at burning calories than jogging:

  1. Boxing - If you have done a boxercise class before than this will come as no surprise to you, because no one walks away from a boxing session dry unless they were only giving it 50% of their all. Get those gloves on and get sweaty, cos boxing will roughly burn a whopping 700+ calories an hour!

  2. Skipping/Jump rope - Great as a warm up exercise, or even just for fun, skipping can burn between 500-700 calories p/h, as long as you are giving it your all. Try to aim for around 100 skips per minute to make sure you are burning at the higher end.

  3. Stair runs - Running uphill steps will burn around 300 calories p/h more than running on the flat ground (You are looking at around 700+ calories p/h!), plus you are giving your glutes and extra workout.

  4. Rowing - Slogging it on a rower is an excellent way of burning through calories, with the added bonus of toning your arms, shoulders and back as well as your legs! A high-intensity sesh will burn between 600-700 calories per hour.

  5. Cycling - Spin is another class that will have you walking away drenched in sweat. It is a great way to burn calories, with an average class/ or mountain biking session, burning between 400-500 calories p/h.

  6. Dancing - Okay, so I admit that not all dancing is going to burn more than jogging, but if you really work your booty then you can burn between 400-500 calories p/h. Plus it is so much fun to just let loose and go wild to your favourite tunes!

  7. Walking uphill with weights - Do not underestimate the amazing calorie burning increase adding weights can do to your walk. Uphill walking with weights can burn around 400 calories an hour! - Want to burn more? Try jogging uphill with weights!

So don’t think that jogging is your only option when it comes to keeping yourself in shape, there are plenty of other ways that provide other strengthening and toning advantages too. Plus it is always fun to mix it up a bit!
