The more lean muscle mass you have the more calories you burn when your body is resting. Which means if you work on toning your body with resistance training, you will reap the fat burning effects, even when you are relaxing in front of the T.V!
So by focusing on two of your largest and strongest muscles, your gluteus maximus and your quadriceps, you can not only gain strength and definition in these areas, you can also amp up your average calorie burning capabilities!
Here are 5 of my top favourite exercises that work on these areas:
Squats - Squats are an excellent lower body workout because even though they focus and strengthen both your quads and your glutes (not to mention all the other muscles of the legs), they also work on strengthening your core, hips and lower back as well. Try alternating from timing how long it takes you to do 100 unweighted squats, to doing sets of weighted squats on different days to really work these muscles and gain the most from this exercise.
Weighted Walking Lunges - Weighted walking lunges are a great functional fitness exercise because they help keep you agile, strong and flexible in your lower body. Using weights accentuates the pressure on the muscles helping you strengthen and tone.
Deadlifts - One of my favourite exercises, the deadlift really works in on these main large muscle groups helping you strengthen and build your lean muscle mass and sculpt sexy and feminine legs and thighs!
Weighted Step-ups - This is a really functional exercise that mimics movements you may often encounter in daily life. It also really focuses in on those glutes and quads giving you that nice muscle burn that lets you know you are strengthening them!
- Weighted Hip Thrusts - Another great exercise that really focuses in on the glutes as well as the quads, weighted hip thrusts will help you shape, tone and build on that calorie burning lean muscle mass!
