I love learning about nutrition and understanding what my body needs and why! It’s even more fun learning about interesting facts that are both shocking and impressive!

Here are 10 weird and wonderful facts about nutrition that you might not already know!

  1. Mushrooms come in all shapes and sizes and they are the only natural non-animal source of vitamin D (except the sun of course!)
     
  2. A study, done in 2010, showed that ginger is an effective muscle relaxant and can reduce exercised based pain in muscles by up to 25%!
     
  3. If you add fresh lemon or lime juice to your next cup of green tea you will stabilise the catechin content which enables you to absorb up to 13 times more antioxidants!
     
  4. Did you know that tomatoes, bananas, avocados, pumpkin and watermelon are all considered berries, whereas strawberries, raspberries and blackberries are not!?
     
  5. Protein is actually thermogenic and around 35% of the total calories are burnt off by your body simply through digesting it!
     
  6. Blueberries, cranberries, blackberries and currants might be high in antioxidants… But walnuts and pecans contain more!
