7 ways to use coconut oil in your beauty routine

I absolutely love coconut oil and not just for cooking either. This miraculous oil doesn’t just make your food taste great but can be used for so many other things. I always have a few different jars in the home: one in the kitchen, one in the bathroom and one in the bedroom. In particular I use this oil in so much of my beauty regime, for so many different purposes. Who would have thought about turning this pantry ingredient into a beauty cabinet staple? Best thing is, it’s totally affordable and completely natural with no nasty fillers or chemicals. It’s also been shown to have anti bacterial and anti fungal properties, which makes it perfect for the skin. Here are just some of my favourite ways to use coconut oil in my beauty regime.

1. Complete makeup remover
This has to be one of the most effective make removers out there. In my years of working in makeup, this is my far one of the best ways to get that stubborn make up off and completely natural. Other make up removers can contain hidden nasties and are damaging to the skin. Simply dab some coconut oil on cotton pads and wipe all over your face. For heavy eye make up, hold the cotton pad for 10 seconds over your eyes and then wipe. You will find even the most durable eye make up will wipe right off. Then just dampen another cotton pad with water (or I like to use rosewater) and wipe to remove any excess oil and remaining make up off. Your skin will feel absolutely amazing for it.

2. Facial cleanser and moisturiser
I don’t use it all the time as a facial cleanser and moisturiser because it can be a little heavy for my skin, however if I do happen to run out of my other products, coconut oil is my go to. It also doubles up as a cleanser and moisteriser. I find best to use at night, rather then morning so it’s not too heavy before applying makeup.

3. All over body moisturiser
I actually keep a large bottle of coconut oil in my bathroom as it makes the perfect all over body moisturiser. So many body lotions contain harmful chemicals like parabens and sulphates that are toxic to the body. With skin being your largest organ it’s so important that you look after what you put on it. That’s why I try to go for all natural skin care products. You can simply apply it all over the body directly after your shower. Your skin will love it and it will totally make you glow.

4. Use it as a hair mask
Coconut oil is also great for using in your hair as a treatment or even a mild product. I like to rub it through my ends before bed and let it sink in over night. Just be careful to put a towel down on your pillow or a shower cap as you don’t want to get oil on your nice sheets. Simply wash out in the morning and your hair will be feeling nice and soft.

5. Cuticle oil
If you want to give yourself an at-home manicure then look no further then the coconut oil for great moisturising cuticle oil. Simply dab on your cuticles and let sit for a few minutes to allow your cuticles to soften. Then your ready to go for the rest of your manicure.

6. All over body scrub
One of my favourite ways to use coconut oil is as an all over body scrub. You can mix it up with either sugar, salt or even ground coffee beans, add in your favourite essential oil and you have yourself an all-natural body scrub, without the hefty price tag. Keep a jar of it in the shower or next to the bath.

7. Shaving cream
Chuck all your expensive, chemically laden shaving creams into the bin and switch to coconut oil. It works an absolute treat, plus it moisturisers your legs at the same time.

So you can probably see now why I have coconut oil everywhere in the house. In fact coconut oil is just perfect as an all round body care product. Do you have any favourite ways you use coconut oil? If so I would love to hear them in the comments below.
